October brings a powerful combination of themes: fall fitness and breast cancer awareness. At first glance, they may seem unrelated but in reality, movement and prevention go hand in hand.
Regular physical activity is one of the most impactful steps women (and men) can take to reduce their risk of breast cancer and support recovery for those already diagnosed.
The Fitness–Cancer Prevention Connection
According to the American Cancer Society and numerous studies:
Regular exercise lowers estrogen levels and inflammation, both of which are linked to breast cancer risk.
Physical activity supports healthy weight maintenance, which is crucial, especially after menopause.
Exercise improves immune system function, helping the body identify and fight abnormal cells.
Movement enhances mood and reduces fatigue during treatment and survivorship.
Just 150 minutes of moderate activity per week (about 30 minutes, 5 days a week) has been shown to significantly lower cancer risk.
How to Move With Purpose This Month

Dedicate your workouts to someone who’s battled breast cancer
Schedule a fitness-focused wellness checkup to discuss prevention strategies
Share your story or support someone else's journey, movement is easier when done together
