Are there really practical strategies we can take this time of year to help boost our bodies natural defense systems and minimize the impact of viruses in particular on our health?
The answer is absolutely yes! For starters, we do know that being in poor health does places all of us at greater risk. But specifically, what are the most dangerous pieces of poor health we can control?
The most dangerous is obesity, primarily because of all the comorbidities associated with it. These include diabetes, heart, disease, and high blood pressure, cancer risks and much more. For this reason, in our Direct Primary Care practice, weight management and nutrition strategies are a key part of patient care plans.
In addition to cleaning up our diets, we do know that inadequate vitamin C, vitamin D, and zinc in our diet, as well as ultimately in our bodies may place at higher risk for viral infections.
Indeed, there are now many studies world wide which indicate that low levels or worse yet deficiencies of these nutrients individually, and especially in combination may place us at higher risk of viral infection.
In addition to these dietary strategies, from a practical perspective, maintaining healthy levels of physical activity and sunlight year round, also while we don’t feel well may help foster recovery as well.
This is also why many patients report and confirm that early and proper dietary supplementation when combined with good general health habits, like daily physical activity, hydration, stress management may reduce the severity and shorten the duration of viral illnesses.
Early and proper administration of appropriate medication’s also can have a positive effect upon shortening duration and severity.
But the most important tool to have above all?
