Regaining Momentum. Do you remember back to undergrad when you first learned about physics? In particular, do you remember the basic Newtonian principle that a body in motion tends to remain in motion and a body at rest tends to remain at rest? Of course you do! Well all businesses and the practice of medicine do follow the same principles.
We all have periods when we sense the need to regain our momentum. There are certain helpful activities that need to be maintained on a day-to-day basis to keep us moving forward.
For example, our attitudes, staffing and marketing are three of the constants no matter where you are in healthcare that must be maintained and when the need arises, upgraded. But these are easily ignored until problems arise. Respectfully, it’s often our own inactivity in these crucial areas can lead to a loss of forward movement and regaining momentum!
Don’t let this be you! This situation is relatively easy to fix, provided you act fully on your own behalf and assume the role of CEO! We all must have excellent personal and professional systems in place and dedicated time to make sure we are moving in the right direction.
But what if you’ve lost momentum? What should you to do?
The best way to start out is by creating a list of what’s working and what’s not. Be totally rested and honest when you do this. Maybe you need to address certain things with your life and business partners. This is also where simple days off, reading, podcasts and coaching can be an enormous help!
Lose your focus even for just a moment and it’s not too long before all hell breaks loose.
All good executives know this and as physicians we must we when caring for patients too, no matter what our role. Without a doubt, one of the best ways to maintain focus is our own simple lifestyle, great self-care and reading this awesome blog! If you need help developing these systems in your own life and practice, those of us here are ready to help you when you are!
